Surgical Preparations

Surgical preparations vary depending on your diagnosis, and your physician will provide specific guidance to ensure you are fully prepared.

  • If you are undergoing general anaesthesia, you may be required to refrain from eating or drinking for a specified period before surgery, as instructed by your doctor.
  • Shower and cleanse the surgical area, and in some cases, shave the site of the operation.
  • Undergo necessary preoperative tests, such as blood work, X-rays, or an electrocardiogram (ECG).

Do not wear makeup or nail polish.

Avoid wearing contact lenses.

Leave all valuables, including jewellery, at home.

Inform the medical team if you wear dentures or other prosthetic devices.

  • A sore throat due to the breathing tube used during surgery.
  • Pain, swelling, and soreness around the surgical site or IV insertion points.
  • Restlessness and difficulty sleeping.
  • Increased thirst.
  • Constipation and bloating.
